Financial Literacy for Preschoolers

Are you keen to give your Preschoolers the best start in life?

By teaching children to be smart with money from early age we equip them with vital life skills. Kids are so ready to absorb basic money concepts from the age of 4: the more we expose them to our world and talk with them about money, the smarter they will be about their choices, wants and needs, spending and saving.

“Preschool Money Adventures!” is the foundational Financial Literacy Incursion Program every Preschooler needs. It's dynamic, engaging and filled with activities and games for active and creative brains. Money is not complex, it's simple and it's fun!

Preschools and Early Learning Centres, time to get excited!

Workshop #1. Counting Coins

Main Topic: Understanding Currency (~50 minutes)

Guiding children in building the basics of understanding currency while having fun with coins. Through the exploration of the history of money, games and hands-on activities, including identifying, sorting, and counting coins, preschoolers begin to develop connections between the literal product of coins and banknotes and the abstract concepts of using money to make purchases.

Workshop #2. Learn to Earn

Main Topic: Earning Money (~50 minutes)

As children discover the purpose of money, they will begin to wonder how money is earned. Preschoolers explore real-world concepts in this workshop by examining different jobs and sources of income. Making connections between jobs children are familiar with (e.g. those held by family members) they begin to associate how income is earned. A variety of independent and small group activities are provided throughout the workshop to extend students’ exploration of earning money.

Workshop #3.
Needs and Wants

Main Topic: Needs and Wants (~50 minutes)

Dig into the dierence between needs and wants in this workshop by engaging with a storybook and solving story problems. A variety of independent and group activities are provided to extend preschoolers’ exploration of needs and wants.

Workshop #4.
Ready. Set. Goal

Main Topic: Setting Goals (~55 minutes)

Explore the meaning of goals through interactive games that get the whole group thinking about accomplishing new things. Then delve further into goal setting by reflecting on needs and wants to name group and individual children goals through engaging discussions and art projects.

Workshop #5. Super Savers

Main Topic: Saving and Spending (~55 minutes)

Children set out to become super savers in this workshop by exploring the options of saving and spending and engaging in play store game where they earn, spend or save money. Group discussions cover dierent ways how money can be used and safe places where children can keep money that they are saving (piggy bank and bank). The group will have an opportunity to save money for a collective goal and experience delayed gratification when they are able to purchase what they were saving for as a group.

Workshop #6.
Borrowing, Lending and Giving

Main Topic: Borrowing, Lending and Giving (~45 minutes)

Preschoolers explore the benefits and challenges of borrowing and lending by examining how we check out, use, and return books from the library.
